Visual learning tool
description
This visual learning tool aims to demonstrate the ability of
viruses in the family Parvoviridae to cause disease. The format is a website which
rates a new pathogen each week, based on 5 characteristics. These
characteristics are:
- Environmental stability
- Virulence Factors and pathogenesis
- Host Range
- Transmission
- Mortality
The pathogen is given a rating out of 5 for each of the
above categories, and these are averaged to give a final score out of 5. The
use of a rating system aims to convey the relative importance of each category
relevant to Parvoviridae in an easy to remember format. A 'good' pathogen (higher score) is one that is good
at causing disease.
Instructions
Click on "Parvoviridae" on the main page, on the banner image/title for Parvoviridae in the slide show, or "read more" after Parvoviridae.

N.B.
The site works as any normal site, with the exception of the
social networking buttons. There are titles for poxviridae and adenoviridae.
These are not the focus of the learning tool, and are only present to give the
blog a better look (there is no associated story).
The site has been tested with the Google Chrome browser (preferred)
and Firefox browser. Compatibility mode may need to be turned on in newer
versions of Internet Explorer.
